Season 11!

1/16/2022

Wow!!  Can you believe that season 11 will be upon us before we know it!  It's hard for us to believe, but then when we look at all the work that has been done since day 1, it's a great feeling.

We are doing well.  Trying to relax as much as possible during our cold/snowy winter.  Not much else is new.  I have updated the availability calendar now that deposits are starting to roll in.

We will continue to have the same situation as last year regarding Covid 19  changes.  Please bring your own pillows and blankets until further notice.

As the first weekend in May approaches I will post here if there are any other news that needs to be shared.

Take care and stay safe!

Different World...

Happy June 1st!

I realize my title has a lot of different emotions for many of us.  With the Covid-19 pandemic, and just when you thought it couldn't get worse, we have the riots and the awful loss of an innocent man in Minneapolis which has impacted our entire nation.

Everyone of us has the right to feel the way they do.  But there is never ever an excuse to be unkind, uncaring and have thoughtfulness not impacting their everyday lives.  Please, please, please be KIND, be CARING, and be THOUGHTFUL.  The world needs to come together, not drive us farther apart.  The high emotions are easily elevated by the smallest gesture during these difficult times.  Let's all try to pull together and make an example of what we would like our world to be: happy, loving, caring, sharing, giving and respectful of others in every way possible.  This is my wish for all of us.

During the pandemic since March, many of our lives have changed and some of them may never be what they were before that dreadful time again.  I have been able to work during this whole time as my place of employment is considered "essential".  I am one of the lucky ones I know.  As I am very aware that I am one of the few that are able to work.

I also am aware that none of my immediate family members have been affected by the Covid-19.  But I do have close friends that do have family members struggling through this awful disease.  My prayers are with them all.  Due to this pandemic, we have had to adjust a few things here at the resort.  We have had to take cancellations because people just don't feel safe taking the long road trip, and who can blame them.  We have some of our RV park seasonal campers not able to come up to their campers because of underlying health conditions.  This makes us very very sad that our whole Twin Oaks Resort family can't be together.  But we understand they are where they need to be to be safe.

We have made a few changes here to adjust for the pandemic.  We have asked our clients to bring their own pillows and blankets (things we normally supply).  There is just not enough time to wash that extra stuff every week.  If you can't and or forget, no problem, we got ya.  Our cleaning staff has done an exceptional job in cleaning ceiling to floor for your safety.  If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact us.

If you are one of the clients that had to cancel their vacation this year, we will miss you!!  It's not the same not seeing your name on our books this year like we have in the past few years.  Paul and I were just talking that a few weeks ago, that we purchased Twin Oaks 9 years ago.  Wow, where has the time gone??  Unbelievable the time and the changes that have taken place.  We still love it here even more than when we arrived.  We owe it all to you, our clients!  Clients where most of you have become our extended family.

In closing, just a friendly reminder that we are all in this together!  This too shall pass.  I say that over and over and over again.  Remember to be kind, caring and thoughtful.  I am so happy to know so many that I can actually say you all are those words and I am so blessed to have known you.

Stay safe!  Take care!  And keep in Touch!

Love, Veda

Hello to you all!

I can't believe how awful I am at blogging.  I guess it's safe to say I'm not a writer.  Hard to believe for as much as I like to talk!!

I guess no news is good news!  We all are doing very well here at Twin Oaks.  I just updated the calendar and added a few pictures.  If you have any pictures you want to share, please email them to me at davisveda@gmail.com  and I will try and get them uploaded.  Have patience though, lol...

The bookings are starting to roll in with their deposits.  Always exciting to see who is returning and who is new for the upcoming season.  Paul and I just finished our sportsmen's show in St. Paul.  We had a much better turn out than we expected especially with Oprah next door at the XCel and with the Vikings playing in the playoffs....  It was a busy weekend after all.

Our next show we travel to the Quad Cities and from there we head over to Omaha!  It's a long 10 days, but it's 10 days on the road just being us and reconnecting with customers and friends that are so special to us.

Personal notes:  Paul and I finally took our long awaited trip to South Africa!  What an experience!!  It has definitely been our favorite vacation so far.  Already making plans to go back.  But we have a few things to get through and done here at the resort first

If you haven't heard yet, Paul and I are going to be grandparents for the first time!!  Another unbelievable experience we are looking forward too.  Andrew and Katie's baby is due in June 2020.  So I might be a little in the clouds this summer.  And to top it off, our son A.J. proposed to his sweetheart girlfriend and she said YES!  Someday we will be gaining a daughter in law too!  We are growing by leaps and bounds.  Ashlyn is in Sioux Falls and is showing us more and more how much she has grown and has become a wonderful, independent human being!  Our hearts are overflowing with joy.

That's about it, oh, Bailey and Abbey are good too!!  hehe...  They are such babies and keep us on our toes!

Please keep in touch.  If you have any questions about the resort if you haven't been here yet, please ask!  We would love to give you a tour and show you around our little piece of quiet heaven just East of Brainerd :) We always say the quiet side of Brainerd.

Take care and much blessings,

Veda

Hello from Twin Oaks Resort!!
We are finally open and now we just need the weather to start cooperating.  It was a chilly start to fishing opener.  We only heard of 2 walleyes caught one at 22" and one at 24".  I'm sure the cold and windy weather didn't help any. The weather looks promising here on out.  Let's hope!
I finally got pictures of cabin 1 up on the cabin page.  Check it out.  So proud of our 2 new cabins this past winter.  Paul has went above and beyond the call of duty.  They are beautiful.
The phones are starting to ring pretty steady now.  Such a great sound to hear from familiar guests and to hear new guests who want to visit Twin Oaks.  The RV park is full.  Also nice to have new people at the RV Park.  We do have a waiting list for RV Seasonals, if you would like to be added to the waiting list, please give me a call.  I am off to rest while it's quiet here.  Looking forward to hearing from each and everyone of you!!
Take care and God bless!
Love, Veda

Hello everyone!!

Yes I realize it has been awhile since my last blog.  We have been so busy!!
Today we are sitting at the St. Paul River Centre for the Sportsmen's show.  Having a great time and getting a lot of leads on cabin renters and RV interest too.
Paul has been very very busy getting cabin 5 done and we can proudly say it is done!!  Yay!!!  It is so beautiful, I think I'll move into it :)  I'm pleased to be able to say we have an accessible with a roll-in shower cabin.  We had a family of 4 stay in it the first weekend.  The one fellow was in a wheelchair so he was our tester outer.  He said it was very nice and gave us a few suggestions on things we could change.  Thankfully minor things.  So that made us very happy to hear that news.
Cabin 1 is in the midst of being renewed.  Walls are up, insulation is in, and siding is going up.  Can't wait for this one to be done too.  We've been getting a lot of response regarding the new cabins.
I have updated the availability chart and the other sections on the web page.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call.
Next posting I'm hoping to have pictures of the new cabin.
Take care and hope to hear from you soon!

Well here's to another awesome season at Twin Oaks Resort & RV Park!  I just can't believe that we are all closed up for another year.  It went by way to fast!  I'm really hoping for a quick winter season.  I don't know if I'll ever get used to the winter seasons up here.  It's toooooo quiet!!  So happy when we get an email, or a phone call, or a text or even those surprise visits when people stop in to chat.
I have updated the availability calendar.  Take a peak and see if you know of someone that would like to take a vacation up to Brainerd, MN :)  WE appreciate all that you do to spread the word about our little slice of heaven here.
This winter Paul and I will be taking some mini road trip vacations to get out of here for a little bit.  One stop is planned on for the sportsman's show in the quad cities in Rock Island, IL.  We will be displaying the resort and hoping to drum up some more summer company.  From there who knows where we'll end up.  Maybe head south, or west, or just come back here.  One thing nice about the winter, we are pretty flexible with our time.
Paul has been helping a dear friend of ours with field work.  The saying is true, can't take the farmer out of the boy.  He's loving every minute of it.  But Bailey and I are missing him at home.  I loaded Bailey and her leash and we headed down to see Paul last week.  I've never seen a dog whine as much as she did when she saw him.  True love!  ha ha...
I've started volunteering at my church recently.  Loving it! Plus getting odd stuff done here while I can and don't get to do during the summer.  Planning on a few trips to see the kiddos, which will be nice for me.  Not to sure about them, but they'll adjust.  They just have to remember, I'm the MOM!!  :)
Please drop a line or two to keep us up to date on your doings.  Email is davisveda@gmail.com.
God's blessings to each and everyone of you.  Be safe this winter season and pray for Spring to be here soon!
Love, Veda

** Well of course after updating this blog, I noticed my blog from June 2014 has disappeared.***  ugh....  Just don't want people thinking I haven't blogged since last January.

Hello All!

Hope everyone is thriving through the bitter wind chill and cold temperatures we've had lately.  BRRRRR!  Do I need to say more?  Nope, didn't think so.

Things are starting to get busy here with reservations coming in lately.  So thankful for that.  We have joined up with a marketing company, Resorts and Lodges.com.  We should be up and running on that website search engine soon and hope to get more bookings through their marketing strategists.  If you happen to get a chance in the next month or so, after we are up and running, Paul and I would appreciate your checking it out and writing up a review of our resort.  Thanks in advance. You da best :)

Paul and I just try and keep busy in our down season.  I finally got out on the ice for the first time EVER!  Yes, I have enjoyed it.  But I have to learn to not think of the things I'm not getting done in the house while out playing in the fish house.  Paul keeps reminding me that's what it's all about....  Hmmmm.... leaving responsibilities just go really isn't my thing.  LOL...  But we haven't killed each other yet!  Caught some nice walleyes and crappies.  Haven't found the pocket where the sunnies are yet.  They are hiding I think.

Other than that, Paul and I are looking forward to our annual RV Park get together this weekend.  Can't wait to see our RV peeps.  And will miss terribly the ones that can't make it.  Then we are off on vacation for my brothers wedding to much warmer and sunnier conditions.  Then on our return really start planning out what we need to do to get the season going.  I sure hopes it's a lot earlier than last year!  Agree?

Take care everyone.  If you are just finding our website, please feel free to call, email, text or just pop in and we'll give ya the grand tour.  ALWAYS looking forward to meeting new people and hoping to include you in the existing family already in place.

Gods Peace to you all!

Winter Already!??

It is hard to believe that it is October and it was snowing out today!  I know, it shouldn't be that hard to believe, it is October, but wasn't it just fishing opener in May and we were praying like no other for the ice to go out??  Feels like yesterday...

Where did the time go?  Where are all my RV people that have given us another great year?  Where are the cabin people that we have enjoyed getting to know again, or meeting for the first time?  It's so hard to believe except when I turn around and see the mounds of laundry piled in from the cabins waiting to be washed up and folded away for the winter.  One of the downsides.  But I can't think of too many.  Truly love being here!

It is so quiet again...  Walking through the park yesterday, I kept hearing leaves rustling to my left, but then to find out it was the 6 deer watching me to my right and then running off.  Guess I'm never really alone.  They just don't converse very well.  ha ha.  I don't get the "Hi Veda" as I walk by.

So I hope my ramblings on here will tell you all that you are missed very very much.  And we can't wait to see or hear from you again.  Take care.  Keep warm, keep safe and know you are blessed and loved.

Love, Veda

Wow, I hadn't realized I hadn't posted in so long. This summer has been just beautiful.  Beautiful weather, beautiful guests, just plain beautiful.  I'm sure it gets old listening to Paul and I say over and over again how blessed we are, but we TRULY are blessed!

On May 15th, marked 1 year since signing our papers as the new owners of Twin Oaks Resort & RV Park.  What a year it has been.  We have meet such wonderful people here in the Brainerd/Garrison area.  Plus the guests that have visited the resort, again, truly blessed!  But I think the biggest blessings have been the repeaters...  The RV peeps that have returned, finally, after our never ending winter, have proven to turn out to be our 2nd family.  I can't imagine the RV park without them.  Then the cabin returns from last year.  How wonderful to see them again too!  Starting to get the name thing down better :)

Paul and I have been busy this spring with the resort.  We have put on some log wood siding on some of the cabins and have painted what we did not put siding on.  Cleaned it up quite a bit. Also, we have replaced some of the carpeting in some of the cabins with linoleum.  All the cabins have new mattress and box springs too! Much more to do, but in time, in time...

We put in a beach area, nicer for kids to play in and nicer for adults to get in and out of the lake easier.  Plus the addition of our sand volleyball court has proven to be fun had by all.  So far, contests between the adults vs. the kids, the adults are undefeated!  No, I have not partaken in any of the games, I leave it to the pros.  Maybe some day I'll jump in.

Fishing has been very well too.  Lots of bass, sunnies, northerns, walleyes...  Always fun to see the fisher people come in and show us their catch.    One of these days, I'm gonna have to dust off my pole and give it a try.  Paul has been doing very well the past few days.  Lucky me, I get to have fish tonight!  Yummy!!  Never complain about that.

I have updated the availability chart today on the website.  Please look it over and call to reserve your next vacation with us!  As of now, we have a waiting list for next years seasonal RV park.  If you would like more information on that, please call Paul at 320-224-0747.

Take care, and God Bless!!

Enough Already!!

Ok, Paul took this picture Thursday!  I am looking at the calendar and we are supposed to be opening a week from this Friday...  Hmmm, wonder how that is going to go...  Can't exactly turn the water on, if you can't find it...  Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on this when I say, I'M SICK OF WINTER ALREADY!!  Even if we have to jump straight to Summer and skip Spring, so be it, bring it on!
Hard to believe that when we look out at the lake, there are actually 3 trucks out there and a crew ice fishing.  The ice is still around 30" thick.  Yikes.  Gonna take some drastic warm temps and lots of sunshine to get this season going.  I just pray we don't have the high waters that we did last year on our first season.  Season two seems to be bringing on her own story already and we haven't even opened yet.
But we have had some help here lately getting some work done on the cabins.  I know people have been patiently waiting for me to post some pictures of the newly remodeled Cabin #7, but I have been waiting for the weather to get decent so we can get the staining done on the outside. Then I can get the pictures done.  Inside is complete now with new flooring, AC, CLEANING!, curtains and beds.  In fact, all the cabins have new beds and box springs.
We have been doing some things to the other cabins as well.  Cabin #2 has new siding, windows and flooring as well.  Cabin #4 has some new siding, and some new flooring.  We have been doing things here and there.  Unfortunately, we aren't able to do everything at once, but I feel pleased with what has been done so far.
Not sure if all these people will read my blog, but I have to send a big thanks for the help these kind folks have kindly given to us and Twin Oaks: Tim Halanon and his sons, Lars and Landon.  My son A.J., and his friend Ryan.  My daughter Katie and her friend Andrew.  My other daughter Ashlyn and her friend Jackson.  Our good friend Joe and his kids, Erin and Justin.  We are truly blessed with such awesome people God has put in our lives.
Well as I write this blog, it once again is snowing out.  The prediction is for us to get any where's up to 7". Prayers are welcomed to guide us through season two.  We are starting to hear from our seasonal RV people and they are getting as anxious as we are.  In fact, we had a couple come up yesterday to bring some stuff up to their camper, and they couldn't believe the snow we had here. I just didn't think people would have to shovel to get to their camper at the end of April. I just have to chuckle, because that is all we can do.  It's good I like to laugh!
I'm off to get other things done today.  The calendar has been updated on the website so please take a look and if you know of friends or family that would like to take up some of the empty spots on the calendar, please give them a shout and pass along our number.  It is greatly appreciated.
Take care and God Bless!
